Building the Future

A Uruguayan software and consulting company founded in the U.S. seeks new team members as part of its team expansion plan.

Twenty years ago, Fernanda Badano emigrated from Uruguay to settle in the U.S., where she built a successful career in software and consulting. Drawing on her extensive experience in the field, she founded Dura Digital in 2020, a company specializing in helping clients digitally transform their businesses by offering comprehensive solutions that range from human-centered design to advanced engineering and artificial intelligence.

The entrepreneur always dreamed of creating a tech firm focused on serving North American clients while building a strong foundation of Uruguayan talent to deliver top-notch services that address business and technology challenges. Dura Digital not only aims to provide these services but also strives to be a strategic partner for companies, helping them innovate and adapt to a dynamic environment, according to Badano. “From day one, we’ve built global teams and continue to create new opportunities,” she stated. As part of its expansion efforts, the company is seeking Uruguayan professionals with experience in the tech sector.

The value of Uruguayan human capital is widely recognized in the tech industry, an industry that became the country's fifth-largest export sector this year. When asked about her decision to prioritize local talent in the expansion process, Badano pointed out: “There’s no doubt about the excellent training of Uruguayan professionals, as well as their quality, commitment, and ability to innovate. This has positioned Uruguay as a regional benchmark. They don’t just deliver exceptional work; they also bring new ideas and proposals, something we deeply value.”

She also emphasized that the time zone and high level of English language proficiency among Uruguayan professionals are key advantages in the region and essential for the industry. These attributes, she explained, combined with the collaborative mindset of the teams, enable strong relationships with North American clients, who appreciate the cultural proximity and mutual understanding. Furthermore, curiosity is a critical requirement in their hiring process due to the industry’s dynamic nature. “Curiosity is one of our core values because technological changes are constant, and as consultants, we must always stay on top of what’s new,” she said.

Focusing on the Team

In Canada and the U.S., there are certifications for women-founded companies, and Dura Digital holds this recognition in both countries. Badano praised the high level of female integration in her team and highlighted that women in her company have opportunities to take on decision-making roles—a trend that is slowly becoming more common in Uruguay’s tech industry.

The company operates 100% remotely, and the founder noted that one of the advantages of this model is flexibility, which is a key point, especially among employees with children. “Flexibility is something we work on with the team,” she emphasized. Dura Digital employs various work models depending on the client’s needs, including project-based work or direct collaboration with a client’s team.

The company’s staff is divided into two groups: one focused on the West Coast of the U.S. and Canada, and the other in Uruguay. “Our product is our people,” Badano stated, adding that the fundamental requirement for her team is that members align with the firm’s values, especially the pursuit of quality service that delivers the best user experience.

Through its Human-Centered Design studio, the company explores diverse facets of design, ranging from graphic design to web and app development,  supported by dedicated studios for engineering and artificial intelligence expertise. Meanwhile, the Business Growth studio drives innovation by leveraging technology to manage projects and propel business success.

Driven by a clear vision for growth and supported by a highly committed team, Dura Digital positions itself as a strategic bridge between Uruguay and the world. The company not only exports Uruguayan talent but also leads global technological transformations, reaffirming the country’s ability to deliver innovative solutions that impact international markets.
